LIVE: Jackson on fire as Chelsea race into early lead at West Ham

Nicolas Jackson gave Chelsea the lead after less than four minutes when he skillfully slipped his finish

between goalkeeper Alphonse Areola’s legs, taking advantage of a fast free-kick

that caught West Ham’s defense off guard.

 

Cole Palmer nearly gave the visitors a 2-0 lead shortly after Jackson finally found the back of the net.

This time, he was able to latch onto a superb through pass from Moises Caicedo and stroke

his shot into the corner with the outside of his boot.

 

After West Ham’s penalty claim was reviewed by VAR, Wesley Fofana’s tug on Crysencio Summerville

was not considered deserving of a spot kick. Mohammed Kudus then thought he had cut the lead in half,

but his goal was disallowed for offside.
