Trio to miss out: Aston Villa injury latest and predicted XI v Wolverhampton Wanderers, midfielder ‘on crutches’.
The latest team news, injury update and predicted XI ahead of Aston Villa’s home game with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.
Aston Villa head into Saturday’s home clash with Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers looking for a fourth consecutive win in all competitions.
Unai Emery’s men are on something of a high at the moment Amadou Onana and Jhon Duran netted in a 2-1 win at Leicester City prior to the international break before an Ollie Watkins brace and another goal from Duran helped claim a dramatic 3-2 home win against Everton last weekend. There was a moment of history for Villa in midweek when they kicked off their first Champions League campaign with a 3-0 win against Swiss side Young Boys on Tuesday night as Youri Tielemans, Jacob Ramsey and Onana all found the net at the Wankdorf Stadium.
One of the key challenges for Emery and his players during a historic season will be how they adapt to life back in the Premier League after taking on the elite in Europe for the first time since 1983. A first sign of how they react from their European adventures will come on Saturday when struggling Wolves are the visitors to Villa Park. Gary O’Neil’s men are sat in the Premier League relegation zone after taking just one point from their four fixtures so far this season and will hope to use the short trip to Villa to kick-start their campaign.
3 Added Minutes takes a look at the latest Villa team news and assesses who could start as they go looking for a fourth consecutive win.
Aston Villa team news
Poland international Matty Cash is rapidly closing in on a comeback from the hamstring injury he suffered in the 2-0 home defeat against Arsenal last month. Since coming off just 16 minutes into Villa’s first home game of the season, Cash has missed Premier League wins against Leicester City and Everton and the Champions League victory against Young Boys in midweek. The defender was initially expected to return to contention in next weekend’s visit to Ipswich Town – but is some hope Cash could make an early than expected comeback.
Fellow defender Tyrone Mings remains unavailable – although the England international is close to a return from training as he reaches the final stages of his comeback from a serious knee injury suffered at Newcastle United on the opening day of last season. A return date in the middle of October has been suggested for Mings – and the same can be said of Boubacar Kamara as the former Marseille man has made good progress from the anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered against Manchester United in February. Ollie Watkins hobbled out of the midweek game in Switzerland but is expected to be available for Saturday.
Martinez, Bogarde, Konsa, Torres, Digne, McGinn, Onana, Tielemans, Bailey, Rogers, Watkins.
