Abdallah Sima shows Rangers what they’re missing as Champions League footage emerges

Rangers fans will be wondering what could have been after Abdallah Sima scored for Brest on the opening matchday of the Champions League.

TNT Sports posted a video on X (19 September) to show Sima’s brilliant improvised goal on the turn for Brest against Sturm Graz, putting the Ligue 1 side 2-1 up in their first ever Champions League match.

Sima impressed at Ibrox while on loan from Brighton last season, but the Gers were unable to secure a return for the Senegalese winger as the Seagulls loaned him back out to European debutants Brest.

The Light Blues, meanwhile, also missed out on qualification for the Champions League following defeat to Dynamo Kyiv over two legs, and Sima’s goal will represent a cruel double-blow for Gers fans.

Rangers fans will rue missed opportunity after Abdallah Sima goal

Watching a player who became a hero at Ibrox last season score in the most prestigious of all European competitions will certainly be a sore point for Gers fans, having seen both slip between their fingers.

Sima’s 16 goals in 40 Bears appearances last season saw the Senegal international become a staple under Philippe Clement, and in a summer of change, he’s one player fans would have loved to see return.

Clement’s lack of depth out wide in the new campaign has been exposed by the absences of Oscar Cortes and Ross McCausland, with new left-back Jefte often playing further up the pitch.

Jefte’s controversial red card was seen as a turning point in the second leg of the Gers’ 3-1 aggregate defeat to Dynamo at Hampden Park – leaving supporters with more unanswered questions.

Would Sima being in the side have made the difference to quality? Would he have found the back of the net in similar style for the Light Blues? Sadly, for Rangers fans, those questions will remain unanswered.

In other Rangers news, Ibrox hero Kris Boyd has told his former side to be “worried” about developments at a rival Premiership club.
