Daniel Farke finally reviews why he has faith in Leeds United as he admits standards dropped last season
Daniel Farke thinks he must maintain composure while others worry about Leeds United’s
form because he believes the team is playing well and working harder than in the final stretch of the previous campaign.
He has the data to support this claim.
Since mid-March, Leeds has only won back-to-back games once. On Saturday, they were defeated 1-0 by Burnley.
With just one point and one goal in the Championship this season, Erol Bulut will undoubtedly be the manager under
the most pressure when Cardiff City hosts the Whites this Saturday, but Farke will also be under examination.
“We are all judged by results but I’m not addicted to results, I’m just addicted to performances,” he stated.
“After Manor (Solomon) tragically made the incorrect judgment, slipped,
and our defensive players were up for a corner, we only gave up one goal in the last four games,
and that goal came while our center-backs were behind the ball.
We are the greatest side in the league when it comes to possession.
We rank first in passing accuracy, second in shots against, third in shots for us,
first in predicted goals against us without penalties,
and second in expected goals for us. With these numbers, you are typically in the lead.
“Why don’t we
there? Because we are effective enough.
“We’re there with the highest sprint distance in the whole league, the third highest for total distance.”
Farke insists he must continue doing what worked for Norwich City and has no problem with criticism or charges of conservatism.
“You can never take it personally – no one means it in a bad way,” he stated. It’s a result of universal concern.
“I would be the perfect candidate for Leeds United if, after one defeat, I started to doubt everything and made drastic changes.
“I think it will occur once more.
“This is not how you can succeed if a boss panics.
“We tried a more offensive-minded set-up in the (League) Cup and it didn’t work out that great (losing 3-0 to Middlesbrough).”
Since Easter, Farke acknowledges that some players have not demonstrated the mentality he desired.
“Sadly (late) last season we had many players perhaps thinking about ‘What happens if…
‘” he stated. “There were offers for some of our players, who were a bit distracted.”
