Inside Narcis Pelach‘s first Stoke City press conference, his verdict on transfer business and style of play

Narcis Pelach joined Stoke City two and a half weeks after the summer transfer window closed, so it was intriguing to hear if he believed he had the resources available to create a diverse squad given his previous comments about wanting to do so.

The response was quite forceful. The new head coach stated, “Of course, I arrived right after the transfer window, but I’m more than happy with the movements that the club made in the transfer window.

” Had I been here earlier, I would have given it my support.

The club performed a fantastic job, in my opinion. It’s a young, energetic group that is prepared to battle; all it needs to do now is build the fire to take the next step. I know that is going to be hard but it’s day by day.”

Versatility and hungry were the two buzz words during a 25-minute chat with the local media as Pelach was unveiled at the bet365 Stadium, flanked by the men who had appointed him on Wednesday: sporting director Jon Walters and chairman John Coates.

Pep Guardiola is believed to be one of the more famous people in football who have sent him good luck messages over the last couple of days and Pep is obviously a hero and role model to any ambitious young coach, especially when you’re from Catalonia.

The bottom line is substance over flair if most teams’ long-term goal is to play like Barcelona. Pelach, in his TV news conference, turned to chat about his friends Bojan and Marc Muniesa after chuckling teasingly about Stokelona. He kept saying that style matters, but it seemed more to mean that the team needs to have a distinct personality than that it should be about attempting to score points for the most passes made.

The look must be adaptable, he stated. “I believe that what I stand for is something that is competitive in every way. Since you are just teaching one of them, I don’t want to see something that is absolutely poor in one phase and fantastic in another.

I would rather be a part of a competitive squad than anything like that. We have discussed West Bromwich, which is something I would really like to accomplish.

We are strong in defense, attack, and defensive transition; we may not be great in any one area, but we go to games and make sure we stay in them and we find a way to get points we find a way to win
