Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness has predicted that John Bennett’s resignation will lead to chaos behind the scenes at Rangers.
Bennett stepped down from his role with immediate effect due to health reasons, and former director John Gilligan is currently temporarily fulfilling the role while the search for permanent successor commences.
As it stands, Dave King has hinted at his desire to the top job. He enjoyed success between 2015 and 2020 as the club climbed from the Championship back into the Scottish Premiership.
Gers club legend Ally McCoist claimed recently that he felt that this was the logical solution to the club’s problems behind the scenes, but the Rangers hierarchy are reluctant at this time to let King back into the fray due to the manner of his departure four years ago.

The 66-year-old, who has also worked in senior positions at Everton and Aston Villa, told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I can imagine this job has taken a huge toll on John Bennett’s health. I heard an interview with Dave King, who was previously the chairman, saying he wants to come back.
“He’s the major shareholder with 15%, but it’s going to be a huge battle. I’m afraid it’s going to lead to massive infighting in the boardroom at Rangers. It’s not going to be pleasant.”
