Stoke City make big manager decision ahead of crucial Hull City clash

Narcis Pelach has been named the new manager of Stoke City. He has agreed to a three-year contract,

and his first match as manager will be Friday night’s visit by Hull City to the bet365 Stadium.

After five games without a victory, the Tigers, who have lost all five under their new manager Tim Walter,

will be looking to spoil the new manager’s celebration in front of the Sky Sports cameras and start their own campaign.

After a year and a half as Norwich City’s first team coach, Pelach left Carrow Road to take over in

the Potteries and succeed Steven Schumacher, who was fired on Monday morning following the team’s loss to Oxford United.

Pelach will work alongside Lee Darnbrough in the Potteries.

The Spaniard took in Tuesday night’s action from the stands as the Potters, under interim manager Ryan Shawcross,

defeated Fleetwood Town 2-1 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 90-minute match. On Wednesday,

the team trained in preparation for the match against City.

The Girona native, 36, was a player at one point and went on to coach for Manchester City

and Leeds United before joining Carlos Corberan’s backroom staff at Huddersfield Town.

After Corberan left after their play-off final loss to Nottingham Forest,

he stayed on and worked briefly for Neil Warnock.

The season began with him serving as a member of the backroom staff for new

Canaries head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup after he moved to Carrow Road to work under David Wagner.

However, he jumped at the chance to take on the role of manager for the first time,

bringing goalkeeping coach Paul Clements, analyst Harrison Glew,

and former Potters midfielder Dean Whitehead with him.
