This season, the Champions League combined prize pool sits at €2.467bn – meaning Celtic have the opportunity to

rake in huge winnings in the European competition.

 

Brendan Rodgers’ side enter the competition tonight in the revamped league phase where they will play eight matches to

determine whether they’ll advance into the knockout rounds.

 

Already, Celtic have banked €18.62m (£15.7m) simply from being involved in the league phase of the Champions League.

 

However, they could add another€2.1m to that prize money with a win against Slovan Bratislava in their opening fixture.

 

Clubs can earn performance-related bonuses with wins or draws in the league phase.

 

Apart from the win or draw fees every match, UEFA will also guarantee Celtic a minimum payment of €275k (£232k).

 

That amount will be awarded to the club that finishes 36th in the league phase,

with an additional €275k being added for each spot higher in the standings following all eight games.

Celtic Champions League prize money

League phase participation – €18.62m (€17.87m down-payment and €750k balance).

 

Performance bonuses – €2.1m per win, €700k per draw.

 

League ranking bonus – Each club will earn at least €275k for their league phase campaign – for every position above 36th,

another €275k will be added to the bonus.

Furthermore, clubs ranked 1-8 at the end of the league phase will receive an additional €2m with clubs 9th to 16th pocketing €1m.

Progression bonuses – qualification for the knockout round play-offs: €1m per club
− qualification for the round of 16: €11m per club
− qualification for the quarter-finals: €12.5m per club
− qualification for the semi-finals: €15m per club
− qualification for the final: €18.5m per club
– competition winners receive an additional€6.5m.
