Novak Hints at 2024 Career End
Although Novak Djokovic acknowledged he doesn’t have any unique plans for the remainder of the year, he did return to the tennis courts in Sofia to play Grigor Dimitrov.
If Djokovic’s performance this year hasn’t already made it apparent, the Serbian is entering a new chapter in his career. He won’t play as much as he did in past years and isn’t pushing himself as hard as he once did.
This was previously verified by the 37-year-old while he was in Belgrade for the Davis Cup match against Greece.
In response to a question on the ATP Finals, Djokovic declared categorically that he was no longer interested in those competitions, indicating that going forward, Grand Slams will be his main priority.
Djokovic’s admission is intriguing, but not wholly unexpected. If he keeps putting in the same amount of time and effort, he only has a few more years remaining in tennis at 37.
After spending so much time in the game, Djokovic seemed ready to pursue other interests. After all, life is more than just tennis.
During the exhibition match against Grigor Dimitrov, Djokovic made an admission to the media in Sofia: he has no long-term goals for either this year or the next. He’s just making decisions as he goes, event by event.
His current plans are to attend the Shanghai Masters in China and the Saudi Arabian exhibition, after which he will make his next move.
“I don’t have long-term plans for the first time in my career. I’m living in the here and now, and I’ll see what transpires. I’ll play against Grigor in Sofia today, then travel to China and Saudi Arabia for an exhibition tournament.
“After that, I’m not sure.” We’ll wait and see how I feel before making a decision. I place a lot of importance on family life.
I haven’t been able to spend as much time as I would like with my wife and kids and be a part of their everyday lives for a long time.
