Pat Beverley’s Bizarre take On Giannis’ Role

In a recent podcast episode, Patrick Beverley discussed the NBA’s top power forwards. Karl-Anthony Towns, Zion Williamson, Jaren Jackson Jr., Lauri Markkaanen, and Draymond Green were named the greatest.

Athough Beverley oddly left out Giannis Antetokounmpo, his former teammate, on the list since he was a small forward.

There aren’t many strong forwards in the world. No, a four, not Greek Freak! He is a three. Are you nuts, Greek Freak is a three? What are you talking about, Greek Freak, Dame Lillard, and Khris Middleton?

Beverley’s remarks are not accurate, while having some sound justification. Giannis Antetokounmpo is not a small forward, even if he is trusted to bring the ball up. Because of his size, speed, and domination, he is a force to play power forward for all of his coaches.

He most certainly deserves to be on Beverley’s list because many would contend that he is the best player at that position.

It is unexpected to hear Beverley’s evaluation of Antetokoumpo’s position on the court given that he most recently shared a court with Giannis.

Of course, Beverley’s decision to leave Antetokounmpo off his list of the best power forwards was not intended to be disrespectful, but that doesn’t excuse his analysis of the circumstances. As a powerful forward, Giannis regularly plays there.

Since their historic victory in 2021, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks have had difficulty winning the NBA championship again. Since then, the Bucks have really failed to go past the second round of the playoffs.

Furthermore, Giannis Antetokounmpo has stated unequivocally that he won’t remain if the Bucks don’t compete.

Giannis Antetokounmpo frequently uses his desire to compete for and win titles as leverage to force the Bucks to make decisions that will improve their team.

The Bucks acquired Jrue Holiday in 2020 amid worries that Giannis may declare for free agency the following season. This move essentially secured them the 2021 NBA title.
