Midfielder for Arsenal speaks up about his desire to leave the club

After going back on loan to his former team FC Porto this summer,

Fabio Vieira has disclosed that he actively pursued a departure from Arsenal.

After a challenging period in North London, Vieira has agreed to a season-long loan agreement with the Portuguese team.

Since moving to Arsenal for £34 million in 2022, the midfielder has started only five Premier League games.

The 24-year-old returned to Porto on loan, with no option to make the transfer permanent,

after requesting to leave Arsenal in the summer in search of playing time.

During his initial stint at the Estádio do Dragão, Vieira rose to prominence as one of the Primeira Liga’s top midfield players, and he has acknowledged that the “idea of returning” originated with him.
Vieira is happy to complete the Porto loan deal.

He expressed his excitement to “give everything on the pitch” and expressed his belief that Porto is the ideal location for him to keep “growing and developing.”

It was I who had the notion to come back.

Vieira declared to O Jogo, “I love this club and I am going to give everything on the pitch.”

It is my home, therefore of course I am pleased there. I am excited to play in front of these supporters at the stadium, represent this team to the best of my abilities, and be there.

Above all, I was drawn to the opportunity because it fulfilled a desire of mine: to play. After an operation and a challenging year in England, I thought FC Porto offered a fantastic chance for me to keep improving.

“I thought this was the appropriate location to do it for the season.”
