Star signing Mikey Johnson will have to wait for his Albion chance, according to John Swift, who believes the winger can re-capture his

form from last season.

The 25-year-old scored seven goals in 20 games since joining the club on loan from Celtic in January.

His outstanding performances during his loan term helped Albion reach the Championship play-offs, but a permanent move this summer

seems doubtful.

However, late in the transfer window, it was revealed that West Brom had made a £3 million approach for Johnston’s services, and the

winger confirmed his return to The Hawthorns.

Johnston made his debut off the bench in a 3-0 win over Portsmouth, but he has heavy competition to regain his place in the starting

lineup. The returning Karlan Grant has had an excellent start to the season on the left wing, playing a key role in all five games and scoring at Stoke.

Midfielder John Swift expressed how pleased the Albion squad is with Johnston’s comeback, but stated he will have to wait for his

moment to shine again. He stated: “Everyone knows how crucial he was when he arrived. “He’s a great guy who gets along with

everyone.”He must wait for his opportunity, as KG is now performing admirably.” It did seem unlikely he was going to come back, from

the outside for the players, but once it got closer it felt like it was actually going to happen.”

On the penultimate day of the transfer window, The Express & Star reported that Johnston was on the verge of a shock return to The

Hawthorns.

In a subsequent interview, Johnston disclosed that he returned to the West Midlands and spent time with midfielder Jayson Molumby

before signing with Albion.
