Narcis Pelach is expected to take over as Stoke City’s next head coach after Steven Schumacher’s unexpected departure.

Following a prolonged stint in the Man City camp under fellow Catalan Pep Guardiola, Pelach, 36, has been sidelined

for the last four years in the Championship while serving as first team coach at Huddersfield Town and Norwich City.

He has previously managed Figueres and served as the under-21s coach and first team assistant at Man City’s sister club Girona.
He has been courted as the candidate to succeed Schumacher, who was informed yesterday morning upon his arrival at Clayton

Wood that his tenure with the team was coming to an end, along with his assistants Mark Hughes and Chris Cohen,

as well as coach Peter Cavanagh.

Stoke make big decision to let Schumacher go

A deflating defeat at Oxford United prompted Stoke’s hierarchy to make this decision, taking a dim view of the

performance perhaps even more than the result. Stoke had lost to West Bromwich Albion too in their last league

home game and the top brass are believed to have been unconvinced by a 1-0 win at Plymouth heading into the international break.

Jon Walters said: “My role as sporting director is to make tough decisions that serve the long-term interests of Stoke City.

After ongoing discussions with John Coates, we feel the time is right for a change in direction to bring success to the club.

Presenting Narcis Pelach

Before Monday’s breakfast, not many Stoke supporters would have been familiar with Narcis Pelach, so we chatted

with Norwich writer Connor Southwell to get a sense of what to anticipate.

“Anyone talking about Pelach will bring up two points: his popularity among players and the extraordinary attention to detail he puts into his work,” he stated.

Under Wagner, Pelach was in charge of opposition analysis, covering every square inch of the opposition to prepare for any eventuality.

In addition to being a workaholic, he has the ability to build rapport with players.”
