Sunderland will get €4.5 million from Chelsea under Papy Djilobodji’s 2016/17 transfer conditions.

Papy Djilobodji’s £8 million acquisition from Chelsea was a disaster in many aspects.

Sunderland signed a number of high-profile players who ultimately failed to live up to expectations towards the end of their Premier League tenure.

Even though the Black Cats’ appalling transfer attempts failed miserably on the field,

the team suffered long-term consequences from their bad acquisitions following their Premier League relegation.

Due to their lack of success in the market,

the team suffered from multiple relegations and was forced to play in League One.

Although Papy Djilibodji’s £8 million transfer from Chelsea cannot be held entirely responsible for the club’s dissolution,

it did serve to showcase the kind of commercial dealings that ultimately contributed to Sunderland’s bankruptcy.

Gone are the days of squandered millions.

Kristjaan Speakman, the director of football and chairman of Sunderland, deserves praise for handling this kind of paperwork.

Considering that Djilobodji having never played in the Premier League for his last club, the £8 million signing of the former Chelsea player was a gamble.

Not only was the fee exorbitant,

but Ndong and the center-back also departed for free.

The total losses from the two transactions were £21.6 million.
