The Chicago Bears faced a tough challenge in Week 2 in primetime against the Houston Texans. It was a big test for Caleb Williams and the Bears offense early in the season, coming off a Week 1 performance in which they didn’t reach 150 yards of total offense.

And they left Sunday’s game with a lot of question marks about the offense, specifically the offensive line and playcalling in the 19-13 loss.

Williams was sacked seven times, hit 11 times and the Texans had a total of 36 pressures in 37 dropbacks on Sunday night. They flat out dominated the line of scrimmage as Chicago’s offensive line looked awful all-around. Chicago couldn’t muster anything on the ground either as their offense looked lost for most of the game.

Still, the Bears had a chance at the end of the game to win it thanks to the defense.

Chicago’s defense kept them in the game, allowing just the one touchdown which came on the first play of the second quarter as Nico Collins took a CJ Stroud pass 28 yards. That gave the Texans a 10-3 lead and control of the game. After that? The Bears defense gave up just four field goals with three of them being 50-plus yards from Ka’imi Fairbairn.

The Bears finally got into the end zone late in the second quarter when Khalil Herbert scored from two yards out to cut the lead to 13-10. That appeared to give the Bears some momentum before halftime but the Texans took it right back with a field goal before halftime to take a 16-10 lead into the break. That’s the closest the Bears would get.

Despite the Bears’ defense keeping them in the game, nothing was rolling for the offense in that second half. Whether it was false starts, missed throws and two interceptions, pressures or the lack of a run game, things really spiraled for the offense as they just couldn’t establish any rhythm. And Houston’s defense made one last stand on the Bears’ final drive under two minutes, sacking Williams and then forcing some incompletions as the drive ended with a turnover on downs.

The Bears committed 9 penalties for 60 yards including multiple false starts and delay of games on offense.

Chicago falls to 1-1 on the year, losing to a really good Texans team despite having the chance to win it at the end. They stay on the road and will face off against another AFC South opponent in the Indianapolis Colts. Stay tuned for most postgame coverage of the Week 2 loss to Houston as well as the upcoming Week 3 game.

The Chicago Bears are making some roster moves before Sunday night’s game against the Hous

ton Texans in primetime. On Saturday, the Bears officially placed offensive lineman Ryan Bates on injured reserve as he’s dealing with a shoulder/elbow injury he suffered in Week 1 against Tennessee.

Bates was acquired by the Bears this offseason from the Buffalo Bills and will now miss at least the next four games with the injury. In Week 1, Bates split time with Nate Davis at right guard as the Bears were not sold on either as the starter. Moving forward, it’s Davis’ job to lose with Bates out.

In addition to putting Bates on IR, the Bears have also elevated wide receiver Collin Johnson and long snapper Scott Daly from the practice squad to the active roster. Daly was up last week in place of the injured Patrick Scales.
