Everton could look to replace key star with Newcastle United mainstay
Sean Dyche’s Everton are considering Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope as a possible alternative for struggling Jordan Pickford.
According to The Sun, Everton are interested in signing Nick Pope. The Newcastle United goalkeeper is being considered as a potential
successor for Jordan Pickford, who has struggled since the start of the season. Pickford joined the Toffees from Sunderland in 2017 for
£30 million. He has been their go-to goalkeeper ever since, but it appears Sean Dyche has become tired of his recent errors and is
considering a replacement in goal.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper has three years left on his contract with the Merseyside club. However, it appears that Dyche is set to cut ways
with the former Sunderland shot-stopper, who has conceded 13 goals in his first four league appearances of the season.
Everton led 2-0 against Aston Villa on Saturday, but lost 3-2, and Pickford was once again lambasted for his performance. Dyche may aim
to replace the English international with one of his backup alternatives in the coming weeks, and he has already begun to arrange for
signing a replacement goalkeeper.
Nick Pope is a name that is high on his wish list. The Everton manager worked with the Newcastle goalkeeper when at Burnley, and he
believes the 32-year-old may be an excellent successor for Pickford. He has the necessary experience to enable them survive in the English
top flight.
While Pope is Newcastle’s first-choice goalkeeper, the Merseyside club may yet have the opportunity to sign him this winter, as the Toon
are interested in Burnley’s James Trafford. They believe the 21-year-old is a good match for their team both now and in the future. If they
can sign him, Eddie Howe’s squad might have no trouble selling Pope.
With his contract expiring in less than two years, the winter window could be the greatest time for Newcastle to cash in on Pope. However,
it will depend on whether they can bring in a new shot-stopper.
