West Ham United is interested in acquiring another striker before the transfer window closes on Friday night, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Hammers have strengthened their attack with the addition of Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund, capping off an incredible summer for the team. They are still looking to add a center-forward, though, and Corriere dello Sport reports that they have their eye on Abraham.

Roma is reportedly considering paying between £19.5 million and £21 million for the 26-year-old, according to the same source. However,

Corriere dello Sport’s paper edition from today (via SportWitness) adds that the Hammers have not made a formal offer.

This season, West Ham began their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace. For the Hammers, Michail Antonio began up front, and Fullkrug took his place. The other senior striker in the team, Danny Ings, may be a prime candidate to depart should Abraham relocate to east London.

Three years ago, the England international paid £34 million to join the Giallorossi from Chelsea. With 27 goals in his excellent first season, he scored just 9 the next year. In the final Serie A match, he sustained a catastrophic knee injury that required ten months of recovery.

When Romelu Lukaku made his comeback in April of this year, Abraham played second fiddle. He possesses a similar role this term with manager Daniele De Rossi preferring Artem Dovbyk. This could urge him to pursue a new challenge and we won’t be surprised if West Ham make an approach.

Abraham possesses the qualities necessary to be successful in the Premier League. He won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021. In and around the box, he possesses a strong aerial presence and is capable of efficiently linking plays. Though his natural position is number nine, he has the speed to break past defenses.

The former Chelsea player might prove to be a wise addition to the Hammers. It seems sense to offer a loan with a purchase obligation that is conditional. The Hammers will then be able to assess whether the striker can return to his previous level of scoring after recuperating from a long-term knee ailment.
