Report: £35,000-a-week “leader” keen to make late Leeds exit

As they pursue a promotion push back to the Premier League,

Leeds United supporters will be hoping to retain most of their squad together.

However, one star they may lose is defender Max Wober,

as the Austrian is being linked to a loan return to Borussia Monchengladbach

after spending last season at the German team.

Wober joined Leeds from RB Salzburg in January 2023 following several strong

performances for the dominant Austrian Bundesliga team. However, the club was

demoted to the second division after just 16 Premier League games, and he hasn’t played in

the league since. A brief loan stint with Gladbach demonstrated Wober’s

abilities and a report from Sky Germany states that he could be on his way back to the club with a deal in the offing.

‘Working’ on the Leeds Wober Move, Monchengladbach
According to a report by Marlon Irlbacher of Sky Germany, Monchengladbach

is reportedly working on a new loan arrangement that would allow Wober,

a defender who is eager to return, to return on loan to Borussia Park.

After Leeds was relegated to the Championship, Wober spent the previous season on loan at

the Bundesliga team. He scored twice in 25 league games as they won just seven

of their league games and nearly escaped the relegation play-off in the top tier by one point.

Although the Austrian defender has had a difficult season, Gerardo Seoane’s team is eager to sign him again,

and Wober ‘can see’ returning to Monchengladbach given that he isn’t a regular

at Elland Road despite his qualifications abroad. Nevertheless, as of right now,

Leeds and Gladbach have not entered into any agreements, therefore he is still in West Yorkshire.

Wober, who makes £35,000 a week at Elland Road, is a wonderful asset to

Leeds this season because of his experience playing in lower leagues. Wober,

a 26-year-old defender with 28 caps for Austria, has already played in the Eredivisie,

Premier League, La Liga, and Bundesliga. He would be a strong opponent.

For Leeds supporters, the summer transfer window has been particularly difficult. Prodigy Archie Gray went to Tottenham Hotspur, Crysencio Summerville left for West Ham United, and Georginio Rutter moved to Brighton in search of better opportunities. Glen Kamara, Diego Llorente, Marc Roca, and Robin Koch also left the team after unceremoniously bad stints at Elland Road.

There have only been four significant additions to the team: Joe Rothwell, Largie Ramazani, Jayden Bogle, and Rodon. With Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund referring to Wober as a “leader,” defensive replacements will be crucial to the team’s success in the Championship this year if he departs.

After defeating Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night, Leeds, who had a difficult start to the season, now have five points from three games. If they can maintain this winning streak, they will have to rely on the players they have left over after Friday’s deadline to guarantee promotion back to the top flight at the second attempt.
