Lawrence Shankland is favourite Kyogo replacement for Celtic
According to bookmakers, Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland is the most likely candidate to take
Kyogo Furuhashi’s spot should the Japanese player leave the team.
The news that Kyogo is one of the two players on Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s shortlist
for the number two striker position at the Premier League champions shocked Scottish football yesterday.
The 29-year-old would only be allowed to leave the Parkhead club for about £20 million, but wealthy City won’t be deterred by that amount.
Even though Brendan Rodgers has already spent £8.5 million to sign Adam Idah from Norwich, it is certain that Kyogo’s exit would result in additional spending.
Furthermore, bookmakers believe that Scotland striker Shankland—whom Rodgers has openly
admired in the past—is the most likely successor in the event that the City agreement is finalised.
Raheem Sterling, a rising talent from Chelsea who Rodgers managed at Liverpool, is also a
contender.
“Hearts goal machine Lawrence Shankland is the market leader(2/1), and that would cause quite
the stir if the Hearts man swapped Tynecastle for Celtic Park,” stated Shane Orton, Head of Betting
PR News at Bet Ideas.
Wolves’ leading scorer Hwang Hee-Chan (5/1) had a great season in his previous spell there and
would probably be a much sought-after addition.
Aaron Connolly, a free agent and Ireland international, was once a highly sought-after player at Brighton. Would a transfer to the SPL help him regain his form?
“Wage demands definitely rule this out, so Celtics fans can probably only dream about Raheem
Sterling (14/1) and Anthony Martial (25/1).”
