The Potters and their Championship adversaries have till August 30 at 11 p.m.

to complete their remaining tasks. It is anticipated that a few

more signings will enable Steven Schumacher’s team to finally

force their way back up the Championship table.
During this final stretch of the transfer window, young players participating in

Premier League preseasons begin to fall back down the ladder,

opening up opportunities for loans.

Ashley Phillips of Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly a target for Stoke City on loan.

The Staffordshire team is eager to get the 19-year-old in as Spurs aim to send him out on

loan once more, according to TEAMtalk.

During the second half of the previous season, the former

Blackburn Rovers young player made an excellent impact

while with Plymouth Argyle. As such, he has admirers both home and abroad.

It’s Stoke who have held positive talks over a deal though as Spurs bid to give

one of their top young stars some more senior exposure.

experience winning championships

Few players, who are just 19 years old, can claim to have played for two

Championship clubs in 34 professional games. But Phillips can,

so if a contract can be reached, he should be ready to play football for Stoke City.

The England U19 international first gained recognition with Blackburn Rovers,

joining the team as a teenager at Ewood Park under Jon Dahl Tomasson’s leadership.

He would be eligible to move to Spurs, where he has participated in

several first-team squads but has not yet made his senior debut.

In January, they sent him to Plymouth Argyle to gain additional experience,

and he made 20 appearances in their attempt to survive.
Although Spurs will take care to make sure Phillips is going to the best club with

the ideal atmosphere if they are to send him out again,

Phillips should be prepared to play a part for the Potters.
Schumacher’s back-end players

At Stoke City, another center back would undoubtedly be beneficial.

Even though they now have four players who can play there,

Bosun Lawal, a recent addition, may end up being utilized in

midfield given his performance there while at Fleetwood Town.

That

would leave Ben Wilmot, Michael Rose and Ben Gibson as natural options at

the heart of defence. Enda Stevens can drop in if needs be, but only really when a back three is deployed.

As such, the signing of another option at the back like Phillips could make for smart business.

His future is firmly in the hands of his parent club though, so time will tell if these

positive talks develop into a deal before the window’s end.
