Aston Villa ‘in negotiations’ to sign £34.5m striker after Chelsea agreement and West Ham talks
is a recent Olympic gold medalist for Spain in Paris. He scored eight goals in 34 La Liga
appearances last season while on loan at Deportivo Alaves. Omorodion is yet to play a senior competitive minute for
Atletico Madrid since signing from Granada in August 2023 for around £5 million. Aston Villa has reportedly
entered negotiations for Omorodion, several weeks after the attacker initially looked set to join Chelsea in a £34.5
million deal.
Villa is reportedly prepared to spend €35 million (£29.8 million) to sign Omorodion; the sum is expected to be
approved, according to Spanish publication ElDesmarque. Chelsea is alleged to have agreed to pay €40 million
before ending the agreement, and West Ham United is reported to have had preliminary discussions.
Joao Felix is another Atletico player that Unai Emery was eager to sign, but the Portugal international has now
committed to Chelsea on a long-term basis. Omorodion, despite having a different kind of game, would be a good fit
for Villa as they look to increase Ollie Watkins’ competition.
While Omorodion is one of the most promising young strikers in Europe and may end up being an even better player
than Duran, Jhon Duran is expected to stay barring any late bids of a significant kind. Meanwhile, Villa have
reportedly been looking into the possibility of signing Raheem Sterling from Chelsea after the former England
international was isolated by new manager Enzo Maresca. There are concerns over wage demands but it could be a
situation to keep a close eye on.
