When Everton and Newcastle United fans recall players who have spent time at both clubs over the years,

perhaps legendary names such as Peter Beardsley and Duncan Ferguson first spring to mind.

And for those who are good on a quiz night,

the likes of Dan Gosling and Sylvain Distin won’t be too far behind.

However, there could now be a new name on that coveted

Everton and Newcastle list, as we approach the end of the summer transfer window.

So far this summer, Everton have made some astute signings,

Tim Iroegbunam impressed on debut and the likes of

Jesper Lindstrom and Jake O’Brien should soon contribute well.

But it’s hard to argue that Sean Dyche’s starting XI has improved,

Amadou Onana remains a big loss.

Notwithstanding, if Kieran Trippier were to arrive from

Newcastle in the upcoming week or two, things could appear a little more promising.

And according to reporter David Ornstein, who provided an update for

The Athletic, that transaction now appears to be quite likely.

Everton needs a right-back, and Trippier wants to leave Newcastle before the end of the month.

Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier could be reunited with Sean Dyche at Everton

Recently, Trippier was disregarded when Newcastle gave

Bruno Guimaraes the captain’s armband—a gesture that seemed momentous at the time.

The writing appeared to be on the wall for

Trippier on Saturday as he watched Tino Livramento play right-back at

St. James’ Park while sitting on the bench.

In early negotiations to sign the England full-back, who turns 34 next month,

Everton has now been in contact with Newcastle.

Trippier and Dyche had a very successful time together at Burnley,

and Everton plans to employ the “exceptional” defender at right-back, where he is most comfortable.

Naturally, Newcastle wouldn’t be short on experience given that

Seamus Coleman, 35, and Ashley Young, 39, are already capable of filling the position.

Furthermore, despite Trippier’s importance during

Eddie Howe’s reign, it appears that he has swiftly come to represent Newcastle’s past.

Trippier was a target for Galatasaray early this summer,

and it now appears that the England international will almost definitely begin a new chapter in his career.
