Rodrigo Bentancur, a midfielder for Tottenham, will not play against Everton.

Tottenham Hotspur’s 2024–25 Premier League campaign hasn’t gotten off to a great start. While a point away

against freshly promoted Leicester City isn’t bad, Ange Postecoglou’s team dominated for large stretches of the game

and generated numerous opportunities, so it was more like two points lost than one gained.

Tottenham suffered a serious blow in addition to losing the opening match of the new season when Rodrigo

Bentancur collided head-on with Abdul Fatawu of Leicester City during a corner kick and collapsed to the ground in

the 78th minute, terrifying everyone in the vicinity as well as viewers worldwide.

When the doctors and physiotherapists arrived, the center midfielder was lying flat on the ground. With twelve

minutes remaining, he was taken off after receiving treatment for more than five minutes. After receiving oxygen

therapy and regaining consciousness, Rodrigo Bentancur was carried off on a stretcher.

Head coach Ange Postecoglou provided an encouraging health update on Bentancur following the game. The next

Premier League game he will miss was a given, given the severity of the head injury and Spurs’ use of a concussion

substitution against the Foxes on Monday.

Bentancur’s physical trainer, Daniel Fernandez, has announced that the player will not play for Spurs on Saturday

against Everton.

Daniel Fernandez stated on Radio Sport 890 that Rodrigo “will not be able to play in the next match due to Premier

League protocol” (h/t ESPN).

“I was concerned about the fall since, in that kind of activity, unplanned head impacts may be rather dangerous.

Fortunately, nothing major occurred. He is good now that he is steady. He received rehabilitation in the locker room,

and to check on him, a precautionary MRI will be performed. At least he is now back to his usual self.

It goes without saying that he needs to exercise caution this week as these strikes can occasionally have aftereffects

that last for 24 or 48 hours. Fortunately, the injury was to the side of his face. He is a little puffy, and we’re hoping

for a speedy recovery.

To lower the danger of brain damage and other issues related to a concussion following a head injury, Premier

League officials implemented the concussion protocol. Additionally, the Premier League’s new “concussion

substitution” policy, which permits managers to make unlimited substitutions for injuries related to concussions, is a

commendable attempt to assist in addressing such extraordinary occurrences on the field.

Good news for everyone connected to Tottenham and beyond: according to his personal trainer, Bentancur is

recovering nicely from a blow-up. The Uruguayan has seen a number of injury setbacks recently, and this is only the

most recent issue preventing him from being included in Big Ange’s starting lineup. Nevertheless, we wish him the

best of luck in his full recovery and early return to action.

Lucas Bergvall or Archie Gray could start against Everton as a result of Bentancur’s unavailability due to concussion

protocol. Following the laughing gas incident, Yves Bissouma was suspended by the club; it is unclear if he will be

available for selection on Saturday.
