Rangers want to take Chelsea offensive midfielder Leo Castledine on loan to help them improve their midfield options, according to Football Scotland.

The Gers have been active in the transfer market this summer and are looking to recruit more players after Philippe Clement began the Scottish Premiership season with a 0-0 draw away to Hearts on the first day.

As a result, the club has increased its efforts to enhance its midfield positions, with Blues sensation Castledine emerging as a potential loan target before the deadline.

Rangers Want Castledine on Loan

Ibrox club is competing for his signature.

Rangers have approached the Premier League club about a transfer for the 19-year-old offensive midfielder, whom club icon John Terry has publicly complimented after making his first-team debut under Mauricio Pochettino last season.

The former Blues captain described him as a “magnet in the box,” and Castledine was nominated for PL2 Player of the Season after scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists in 18 games this season.

Rangers are very interested in taking him to Ibrox on a loan deal with an option to buy, but Chelsea are said to be more interested in getting a deal done that is just a straight loan.

Games 18
Goals 10
Assists 9

That might complicate negotiations, since Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen are also interested in a move and are willing to do a straight loan with no buy option, while English Championship sides are also interested.

Clement expects to lose attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell before the transfer deadline, as the Englishman submitted a transfer request at Ibrox barely 18 months after joining in Glasgow.

Tom Lawrence has started both games this season in the number ten position, while Scott Wright has started on the wing despite speculation that he would be traded before the deadline.

Castledine would compete for the positions with Rabbi Matondo, Ross McCausland, Kieran Dowell, Oscar Cortes, and Hamza Igamane.
