MyKayla Skinner is appealing with Simon Biles to “put a stop” to the online abuse she has experienced as a result of her contentious comments against the current U.S. women’s gymnastics team.

In the midst of their purported feud, the former Olympic gymnast took to Instagram on Tuesday to urge Biles’s followers to desist from inciting hatred and issuing threats.

“I genuinely thought that this matter would not have to be rehashed, but sadly, things have gotten out of hand recently. And it’s one thing to disagree with me about something I said or a point I was trying to make, but it’s quite another when it escalates into cyberbullying or worse,”

Skinner said in a lengthy video. “Watching people cheer on the bullying, which has resulted in violent threats against me, my husband, and our daughter, is horrible. So, at this point, I’m just requesting that it stop for the benefit of my family, because enough is enough.”

Skinner, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic vault silver winner, received controversy ahead of the 2024 Olympics for statements she made about several of her former teammates, who have been competing in the Paris Games for the past few weeks.

“Besides Simone, feel like the talent and depth just isn’t what it used to be,” Skinner remarked in YouTube video last month. “Obviously, many girls do not work as hard. “The girls simply lack the work ethic.”

In reaction, Biles appeared to mention the former athlete’s comments in an Instagram post praising the US team’s triumph. “Lack of talent, lazy, and Olympic champions,” she captioned the photo.

Skinner stated that she personally messaged each of the ladies on the US gymnastics team, but only Biles answered and told her that she was happy of her. This is why she was “surprised” by the Olympic gold medalist’s Instagram caption.

“I am really heartbroken if Simone really thinks that I called our team lazy and lacking talent, and if that’s really how she feels,” Skinner remarked. “But not only heartbroken because that’s not how I feel or even what I said before.

I’m also heartbroken because Simone’s most recent post and the ones that followed it sparked a new wave of abusive emails, DMs, comments, and stories. Death threats against me, my family, and even my agent are examples of hate.

My friends and family shouldn’t have to be the collateral damage in this situation. Nothing has been done by them.

She addressed Biles directly and publicly in the latter moments of the video, saying, “To Simone, I am asking you to please put a stop to this.” Kindly request that your followers cease. Many individuals are currently in need of your assistance, and you have been an amazing advocate for mental health awareness.

I’m sure you never intended for us to be attacked in the ways that we have. We should encourage one another during your performance, the team’s performance, and the Olympics in general.
