Newcastle United are still in talks with Crystal Palace about signing Marc Guehi

Crystal Palace appears to be taking steps to prepare for life without Marc Guehi.

The Eagles have reportedly increased their interest in Maxence Lacroix in an attempt to boost Newcastle United’s chances

of signing the centre back this summer. According to the Mirror, Palace are now planning to formally pursue a move for the 24-year-old, who presently plays for VfL Wolfsburg.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle’s next transfer mission, after nearly agreeing on a deal for William Osula,

will attempt to reach a price agreement for Guehi, who is interested in moving to St James’ Park.

The England international, who impressed at the Euros, is expected to cost a club record amount in total,

and while no agreement was reached at the end of play on Tuesday, Newcastle is expected to return with a new offer.
Lacroix, on the other hand, is in the final year of his contract with the German giants,

and while they have been willing to extend it, the club’s managing director, Peter Christiansen,

has stated that the 24-year-old is ready to take on a new challenge.

“You have to consider all scenarios,” he told the German daily Kicker. “Without wishing to criticize anyone,

it is never ideal when a player enters the final year of his contract.

“But that is the situation; we are speaking with Maxence; we would like to keep him.

” But the player and those around him have their own views and ideals. “And then we’ll see what happens.”

Lacroix has maintained regular communication with Palace manager Oliver Glasner since getting a phone call

from the Austrian at the close of last season. In May, he told Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung:

“We spoke on the phone after the Liverpool FC-Crystal Palace game around two weeks ago. It’s not the time to discuss my future.

“All that counts to me right now is Wolfsburg. We have a mission: to stay in the league.

And after this mission is over, we can go on vacation with a smile. “We can talk after the season.”
