Atletico Madrid is poised for a massive breakthrough, marking their first high-profile acquisition since Joao Felix.

Julian Alvarez, a forward for Manchester City, has committed to a five-year contract.

After negotiating with Alvarez’s management for most of the day, City and Atletico came to an agreement on a €75 million fee plus €20 million in variables for the 24-year-old on Tuesday morning.

It appears that the deal has been finalized.

Earlier in the day, there was discussion about a €2–3 million discrepancy between the sides, particularly when Paris Saint-Germain declared their willingness to pay €10 million a season for him.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the sale has now been completed. Alvarez is now scheduled to land in the capital of Spain the following week.

Los Rojiblancos have been negotiating a move for Samu Omorodion to Chelsea concurrently with the Alvarez deal. The 20-year-old won’t leave the team until the Alvarez deal is finalized,

but Atletico will need the €45 million they will get in exchange for Omorodion in order to finance the transfer.

After Felix, who cost €127 million, Alvarez would become their second-most expensive signing in club history.
