DONE DEAL: Leicester City finally reach €20 million agreement to sign Ajax star Steven Bergwijn who left Tottenham in 2022.

Former Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn has been linked with a surprise return to the Premier League with newly-promoted Leicester City.

The Dutchman left Spurs in the summer of 2022, joining Ajax on a permanent deal. His move came just months after his most memorable game in a Tottenham shirt, which, ironically, came against Leicester.

Spurs found themselves 2-1 down at the King Power Stadium going deep into added time and had looked destined to lose the game thanks to James Maddison’s 76th-minute strike. However, Bergwijn, who had come on as a substitute with just 10 minutes left to play, found an equaliser in the 95th minute.

But Tottenham and Bergwijn weren’t done there. Just two minutes later, Bergwijn was on the scoresheet again to complete a dramatic turnaround and earn Spurs all three points. It was heartbreak for Leicester, but two-and-a-half years later, they could now turn to the man who caused that heartbreak.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bergwijn could leave Ajax before the end of the transfer window. He adds that several clubs are showing an interest in the 26-year-old.

Romano then reports that Leicester have made an ‘approach’ to Ajax over the last few days to ask for the conditions of any deal. The Foxes are looking to build a squad capable of staying in the Premier League after earning promotion from the Championship at the first time of asking last season.
