Brighton looking to pull off huge transfer coup by signing World Cup winner
Brighton & Hove Albion are connected with a move for an experienced 35-year-old defender.
According to Sky Germany, Brighton have launched an official effort to sign former Borussia Dortmund defender
Mats Hummels. The German international is still contemplating his options and has not ruled out retiring this
summer. West Ham United, a Premier League club, are also thought to be interested in Hummels, who appeared 40
times for Dortmund last season. He scored four goals and played every minute of their UEFA Champions League
campaign, which ended with a final defeat to Real Madrid.
“I have no idea what will happen to me in July,” Hummels admitted earlier this year. “I appreciate the situation,
although it feels a little odd. It feels strange to not know. Everything will be decided during the following three
weeks. Today, the disappointment of losing the final overcomes everything.
