The 29-year-old, who came through the Manchester United system, had been without a club earlier this summer

after his contract with Middlesbrough terminated at the end of June. The 69-time Northern Ireland international

played 198 appearances for Teesside before deciding to leave after six seasons in the Championship. Prior to his time

at Middlesbrough, McNair spent two years at Sunderland, the team’s North East rivals, gaining valuable second-tier

experience to help the Baggies in their promotion push.

The defender told the club website, “West Bromwich Albion is a very good club that I’ve always admired.” I know a

number of guys who’ve played here before, and they’ve all said positive things about it. I’m quite thrilled to be here.

I’ve been playing in the Championship for the past seven years, so I have a lot of expertise in this division.

McNair is set to stay in the West Midlands until December 31, when he will join his new colleagues in the United

States.
