Todd Cantwell’s connection with Philippe Clement has previously made several Rangers headlines.

Todd Cantwell, signed by Michael Beale in January 2023, has been one of the Rangers’ most technically adept and talented players in recent seasons.

There’s a reason ex-Norwich City star Cantwell was close to joining Bayern Munich: he’s a creative, brave attacking midfielder who can score spectacular goals.

However, Cantwell’s career has been hampered by attitude and application concerns,

with the midfielder’s frequently self-indulgent attitude having an affect on his tenure at Ibrox as well.

Philippe Clement has not played since memorably hooking the player in the first half of a Europa League match against Aris Limassol last season.

Rangers fans, including one whom Cantwell referred to as a ‘weapon’ in pre-season,

have grown increasingly frustrated with the midfielder’s approach.

With no sight of the 26-year-old this summer and claims that Cantwell wants to leave Rangers,

the revelation that Clement has met with the midfielder will turn heads at Ibrox.

Clement confirms showdown squad negotiations.

While there has been a lot of exit talk about Todd Cantwell this summer,

the Rangers star was part of the club’s training camp group that travelled out to the Netherlands.

Now, the Rangers manager has stated that he has used the Dutch camp to look his players in the eyes and have extensive one-on-ones with every one of his squad.

While up to seven players have been linked to the Rangers’ leaving,

if we could be a fly on the wall during one of those conversations, it would be with Todd Cantwell.

“It was also important with all the players, all 30 that were here, individual talks during this week,” Clement disclosed to RangersTV.

“This has been an extremely intense week. So we had these individual conversations virtually every evening,

so the staff’s days ranged from 7, 7:30am to 11, 12pm.”

When asked about the significance of the discussions, Clement responded, “It’s critical. OK,

most of the guys I’ve known for the past seven months.

“But it’s to make everything clear, to discuss working points.” It is also to discuss the positive aspects,

as well as everything we expect from them this season.

“It also communicates both directions. So we know more about what goes on in the team and with the players,

so we can improve things at the club, with them, and with the group.”

Cantwell is missing from the Rangers squad.

It’s unclear what Todd Cantwell and Philippe Clement discussed at the training camp.

However, the midfielder’s absence from both friendlies against Standard Liege and Ajax has brought attention to the matter.

When queried about the absence, Clement indicated that the player is unable to play due to’small things’.

While the Belgian manager may have been referring to injuries, such a phrase has sparked conjecture that Clement meant something more.

With Cantwell’s agent selling the player to Serie A side Lecce,

and ex-Liverpool defender Jose Enrique giving the Rangers star to an Instagram fan account, the player’s future remains uncertain.

Todd Cantwell at his peak performance is an undeniable asset to Rangers Football Club.

But at his worst, the midfielder exudes the impression of an unwanted distraction, and whatever happens this summer must be in the best interests of the Gers.
