Newcastle are pushing to sign one of Everton’s top targets this summer

Given that Leeds United’s forward Wilfried Gnonto is a highly regarded player, Newcastle United is planning a

thrilling move for him in response to his team’s disappointing Championship season.

According to TeamTalk, Eddie Howe has identified the 20-year-old as a possible successor for Miguel Almiron,

who is still being linked to a massive £30 million move to Saudi Arabia following many unsuccessful attempts in January.

Leeds United, having finished third and not making it through the Championship play-off final,

will have to fight to retain onto several of their best players. After players like Georginio Rutter and Crysencio

Summerville were strongly linked to departures, Gnonto is now rumored to be another talent Premier League teams

are keeping an eye on.

After the club’s Premier League relegation last summer, Gnonto was keen to leave Elland Road. In what remained

one of the most protracted transfer sagas of that window, he was strongly linked to a 2023 move to Everton.

The youthful player was eventually able to recover his position in the Whites team under Daniel Farke after Leeds

managed to hold onto him on deadline day. In 39 appearances for the West Yorkshire team, he scored eight goals

and provided three assists. Although TeamTalk knows that Newcastle is now prepared to enter the fight to sign the

young player, Everton is still keen in signing Gnonto.

Like Anthony Gordon, Gnonto is a versatile player who can play on either flank or even as a makeshift center striker.

Given the Magpies’ injury history from the previous campaign and Eddie Howe’s insistence on strengthening his

team’s roster depth, this is especially intriguing.

The youthful player has participated in 24 Premier League games and has already earned 13 caps for Italy,

the 2020 Euro winners. He entered the scorebook in a 5-2 Nations League loss to Germany in 2022,

and he made history by becoming the youngest goalscorer in his country’s history.
