Leicester City have announced the permanent signing of winger Abdul Fatawu from Sporting Lisbon.

The 20-year-old Ghana international, who impressed during his loan stay last season, has signed a five-year deal with Leicester.

Fatawu made 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals, including a remarkable hat-trick in a 5-0 win over Southampton.

Fatawu emphasized his enthusiasm for the permanent move, saying, “I feel wonderful. It’s great to be back, and I’m just refocusing for next season. I am extremely motivated to be in the Premier League.”

Fatawu, a Ghanaian native, started his senior career with Steadfast FC before joining Dreams FC on loan in October 2021.

Due to his outstanding play, he was traded to Sporting Lisbon in April 2022, where he played in the UEFA Champions League and made his senior debut against Rio Ave.

Globally, in 2021, Fatawu was awarded player of the tournament after assisting Ghana’s Under-20 squad in winning the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations.

Additionally, he has made 19 appearances for Ghana at the senior level, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

“I can’t wait to see [my team-mates],” Fatawu continued, reflecting on his return to Leicester. I really do miss them. They resemble a family.
