Mario Hermoso is apparently a top target for Tottenham Hotspur, who are eager to bolster their defense.

The seasoned center defender Hermoso’s contract with Atletico Madrid terminated last month, making him a free agent.

CalcioNapoli24 reports that Radio Punto Nuovo claims that Hermoso is a target for Napoli as well, but they will need to release a player to make way for him.

In addition to Napoli, the Spanish defender has drawn interest from Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Chelsea.

Hermoso left Atletico Madrid after turning down a pay offer that included a substantial pay cut.

According to reports, he is now considering his options, and Tottenham’s interest may be a major factor in his choice during this transfer window. Only initial inquiries have been made by other Premier League teams.

At the age of 10, Hermoso started playing football in the Real Madrid youth academy in 2005. He signed a five-year, €25 million contract with Atletico Madrid in July 2019, with Espanyol holding a 20% future sell clause.

He had an instant effect at Atletico Madrid and helped them win the La Liga title in the 2020–2021 campaign.

Atletico opted not to include him in their future plans, despite his strong performances in 45 appearances across all competitions during the previous season.

The 29-year-old center defender, who is well-known for his adaptability and defensive abilities, might provide Tottenham’s defense much-needed experience.

Hermoso’s possible transfer to North London might improve the team’s defensive options for the forthcoming campaign, especially in light of Spurs’ rekindled interest.
