Aston Villa has re-signed academy graduate Jaden Philogene on a four-year contract.

The 22-year-old had a medical yesterday at Bodymoor Heath in preparation for his imminent return, which comes just 11 months after he signed a £5 million transfer to Hull.

Villa proceeded to activate a matching clause in that agreement following Ipswich‘s £18 million bid for Championship goal scorer Philogene, who finished the previous season with 12 goals.

Thanks to a 30% sell-on clause that was also included in the Tigers’ summer transfer agreement, Villa will pay about £13.5 million to bring Unai Emery back to the Midlands.

Villa’s sixth acquisition of the summer window will be Philogene, while midfielder Amadou Onana is anticipated to become the seventh in a club record move. When the 22-year-old gets back from vacation, he has a medical scheduled before leaving Everton for a move for £50 million.

While negotiations on a potential deal with Celtic are still underway, goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo may become the most recent player to depart Villa.

The Finland international, who enrolled at Villa’s academy in 2018 at the age of 16, was mentioned earlier this year as a potential target for the Scottish powerhouses, and a deal appears imminent.

Despite having three caps for his nation, Sinisalo spent the previous season on loan with Exeter in League One. with Villa, he is ranked lower than Joe Gauci, Emi Martinez, and Robin Olsen.
