After making just one senior start for the Portuguese team, Abdul Fatawu departed Sporting to sign with Leicester City. Additionally, some Lisbon supporters believe their team did not give the 20-year-old a fair chance.

In the summer of 2022, Sporting recruited Fatawu from Steadfast FC in his home country of Ghana. In his debut season in Portugal, he was a member of the senior squad, but he only made 12 appearances, 11 of which came off the bench.

After that, they loaned him to City, where his impressive performances established him as one of the most talented young wingers in the game. He has now permanently left Sporting, with Steadfast receiving the remaining £14 million, and the Portuguese team receiving only about half of the transfer fee.

Some Sporting fans expressed their dissatisfaction following the announcement of his permanent relocation to the King Power Stadium. A selection of remarks from social media are shown here.
