With their trip to Leeds United coming up in precisely one month, Portsmouth manager

John Mousinho is adamant that his team will play fearlessly when they return to the Championship.

On Saturday, August 10, Leeds will host Portsmouth at Elland Road for the first

weekend of the 2024–2025 season. The fixtures list has dealt a heavy starting hand to the

League One champions of the previous season. Daniel Farke’s Whites will play all three relegated

Premier League teams before the end of September.

However, Ipswich Town provided evidence that a squad with sound coaching and

recruitment can challenge the best in the league right out of the Championship,

coming in second and earning consecutive promotions without sacrificing their identity.

Pompey knows that they will have a tough task in trying to survive the upcoming season,

but Mousinho is adamant that he will “enjoy” the challenge of playing against

lower-tier competition for the first time in twelve years.

Mousinho declared, “We will attack every game as our strategy.” “These are fantastic games and very important to us, but we won’t be intimidated by them. I want us to enjoy it.” We’re going to make sure we seize the opportunity to demonstrate our abilities at this caliber.

“The bar will be raised. At this level, I don’t think you can afford to make mistakes; you have to be performing at your highest level every minute. We don’t want to be in a league where people can get away with small things, though; this is where we want to be. Although it will be a challenging step ahead, we are eager about it.”

Portsmouth has already been busy in the market, bringing four senior arrivals through the door at Fratton Park. However, they will need to get many things right this summer if they hope to survive in the Championship. Sam Silvera, a winger, has arrived on loan from Middlesbrough, while Jordan Williams, a defender, has moved for free from Barnsley, which is considered a coup.
