Shilton is not happy with the decision, despite the club’s official statement and chief executive Susan Whelan‘s remarks expressing happiness to have landed such a big contract for the team.
Okoli came through the ranks at Atalanta and before making it into the first squad, he went on loan to SPAL and Cremonese in Serie B. He started the 22–23 season in the starting lineup as Atalanta made a run for the top spot in Serie A, but he spent the majority of the second half of the season on the bench.

The former Italy Under-21 international came on loan to freshly promoted Frosinone last season in quest of playing time, and he started 32 of their 38 league games. Even though they lost on the last day, one of the youngest squads in Europe fought hard.

Normally, Okoli would play as the left center-back in a back four; nevertheless, he stayed on that side when the squad moved to a back three. That might be his function in Cooper’s team, together with Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard. But, City has a wide selection of defenders to pick from, including Conor Coady, Ben Nelson, and Harry Souttar.
