What the Southampton Sporting Directorate plans to do with one of their

players this summer may be revealed by remarks made

by Jason Wilcox in January.

Following Southampton’s Premier League relegation at

the conclusion of the 2023–2024 season, Jason Wilcox was named Sporting Director.
Russell Martin was chosen by Wilcox to lead the team in the Championship, and this action was a part of a significant internal reorganization carried out by the club’s owners, Sport Republic.

After the takeover at Old Trafford in April, Wilcox departed the Saints after less than a season in the position to accept the newly-created position of Technical Director at Manchester United.

But remarks made a few months prior to his exit in January about Carlos Alcaraz could shed light on the stance Southampton are likely to take with the midfielder this summer.

Following comments made by Jason Wilcox, Southampton may be happy to have Carlos Alcaraz return.

Alcaraz was only signed by Southampton in January 2023 after the club paid Racing Club £12 million to get the 20-year-old.

Many would have predicted that Alcaraz would take some time to adjust after leaving his native country at such a young age, but the Argentine was one of Southampton’s few standout players as they were demoted from the Premier League.
