The manager of Inter Miami, Tata Martino, has revealed the details of what Argentina’s staff is informing the MLS team regarding Lionel Messi’s continuous health problems.
The 37-year-old forward has been struggling with injuries once more. Messi was not well enough to play in Argentina’s final Copa America group stage match, and he is still a doubt to play in tonight’s quarterfinal matchup against Ecuador.
To the dismay of fans, the current Ballon d’Or winner’s fitness is being kept under wraps since Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni is being evasive about how well Messi is doing despite having resumed full training.
Martino, however, has revealed what Argentina’s officials are currently saying to Inter Miami over their captain.
Speaking to the press, Martino revealed that Inter Miami are in regular contact with Argentina’s kinesiologist over Messi’s ongoing hamstring injury, a medical professional who also works for the Herons.
With Messi struggling with injury problems all year despite his impressive form for Inter Miami this season, Argentina keeping the attacker as fit and healthy as possible will be huge for the Florida franchise.
Indeed, the reigning Copa America and FIFA World Cup holders are showing at the Copa America that they can win comfortably with having to rely on Messi’s attacking and creative genius.
Because of this, Argentina may decide to rest Messi for tonight’s match against Ecuador. This move could be crucial in helping Inter Miami get their star forward back to full fitness later this month.
Given how many fitness concerns Messi has had this season, Inter Miami can be forgiven for wanting the forward to play as little as possible at the Copa America this summer. Of course, this is a selfish opinion.
Messi’s physique is just not capable of playing several games a week at 37 years old, and this is already affecting the attacker for Argentina at the Copa America.
And heading into the knockout stages of the tournament, Inter Miami will want their star forward to feature as little as possible, with the upcoming Leagues Cup tournament something the Herons will want Messi fully fit for this summer.
