Rocco Vata’s brief Celtic career comes to an end when he inked a four-year contract with Watford.

The 19-year-old midfielder decided to quit Celtic after holding lengthy negotiations with Watford. The teenage Republic of Ireland U23 international is certain he wants to join Watford after seeing the team’s training grounds.

Although it may be disappointing for Celtic fans to see such a young player go, the team will be compensated for Vata’s progress. Being a graduate of the Hoops’ youth academy, Celtic is eligible for training payments worth £237,000. This amount recognizes Vata’s growth and development over the years, fostered by the club.

Many Hoops supporters thought Vata’s exit was inevitable. The prospect of consistent playing time and more growth at Watford ultimately proved to be a deciding element in his choice.

It’s a sign of young players expecting too much too soon, and although Vata had a good season last year, he wasn’t noticeable enough to Brendan Rodgers to take notice of him. Even though it seems like we’re losing another promising young player, everyone agrees that Watford was providing Rocco better terms, thus Celtic did not match it.
