The latest news as Celtic and Rangers prepare for another title race next season.
Tam McManus, a former Hibs and Dundee United forward, has attacked Celtic’s transfer offer for Norwich City forward Adam Idah, claiming that the club’s techniques are similar to their failure to sign John McGinn back in 2018.

The Hoops recently had a bid of around £4 million to £5 million rejected for the Republic of Ireland international, who impressed on loan last season, scoring nine goals in 19 games, including a thrilling winner against Rangers in the Scottish Cup Final.

McManus believes Celtic will need to spend much to get Idah in order to prevent losing him to a competitor, as they did with McGinn five years ago, who is now worth far more than the £2 million Aston Villa paid Hibs for him.

“Why do Celtic continue to underbid teams for players? Did they learn nothing from the John McGinn fiasco? Someone will offer £6 million to get him. Penny pinches again.”

Celtic were among the frontrunners to sign the 69-time international following a string of outstanding displays in the capital between 2015 and 2018. However, they were unable to reach the club’s valuation for a player. When Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa beat the Parkhead club to their top target, then-CEO Peter Lawwell received harsh criticism.

The position with Adam Idah is not quite the same, as the player is under contract with Norwich for the foreseeable future. Similarly, BBC Sport understands that new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup sees him as part of the club’s long-term plans, a position not shared by his predecessor David Wagner, who approved the loan move.

Some Celtic fans on X are extremely frustrated by the club’s hesitation to move quickly for Idah. One user wrote, “Biggest financial bank balance in our history, and we’re starting with a bid of £4 million or more for a player worth much more.”

“If you want Adam Idah, pay the money. Embarrassment.”

Others, however, believed that it is critical to be market-savvy and to exercise bargaining power.

According to one user, “No club goes in with their highest offer as their first bid.”

Rangers star offers fans huge injury boost

Rangers forward Danilo is getting closer to returning to competitive play after sustaining a season-ending injury in December.

The former Brazil U23 international confesses that time has been difficult during his absence, but believes that the birth of his child has provided “daylight through the darkness.”

Speaking to Rangers TV, he said: “I always try to look on the bright side, and when I had my knee (injury), my daughter was almost born, and I was like, ‘wow’. I didn’t want to be in that scenario when daughter entered the world. I worked so hard for that, so when she was born, I was ready to take care of her and walk her around, and she gave me so much strength to get through those difficult times. “She’s like the light in the darkness.”

He also stated that his teammates were really supportive of him after his injury.

He went on to say, “The boys in the dressing room are part of the family, and when my head was down and I couldn’t see any progress, even though I had to be patient, the boys were like, ‘Hey Danny, you are always a positive guy and always smiling.'” So they advised me to smile and bring them happiness, which was a very lovely message from the guys when I wasn’t having a good day or wasn’t in a good mood. And now that I’m back on the field, they’re saying ‘welcome back’. They are incredibly sweet and part of our family.
