The Hammers are close to making their second acquisition of the summer transfer window.

According to Sky Sports, the Hammers have finally reached an agreement with

Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign highly experienced centre-back Max Kilman.

Kilman emerged as a major target for new manager Julen Lopetegui as he sought to improve the backline,

and West Ham are reportedly on the verge of completing a deal for the English defender.

We had previously seen two bids turned down, the most recent being for £25 million.

Wolves were hesitant to trade their captain,

but it was expected that an offer of roughly £40 million would be sufficient to finalise the transaction.

The Hammers were initially hesitant to match Wolves’ asking price,

but Lopetegui’s desire to reunite with Kilman at the London Stadium triumphed.

Kilman is set to sign a long-term contract and will be our second signing of the summer transfer window,

following the acquisition of Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras.

Max Kilman would be an excellent addition for West Ham.

The Hammers are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements,

particularly after last season’s disastrous record.

We surrendered 74 goals in the Premier League,

the lowest defensive record of any team finishing outside the relegation zone.

Tim Steidten and Lopetegui are looking to strengthen the backline,

and Kilman is regarded as a key component in a much-needed defensive reconstruction.

The 27-year-old is a seasoned defender who leads from the back.

He would be an excellent addition to Lopetegui’s squad,

and his impending arrival reinforces our resolve to challenge for a European spot next season.

Kilman is leaving Molineux Stadium after six years with the club.

He has appeared 151 times in all competitions, proving to be a cost-effective purchase for the Wanderers.

Lopetegui will hope that the seasoned defender can provide much-needed stability and leadership to his backline,

allowing us to compete more successfully at the top of the Premier League table.
