The team released a statement stating that Steve, 44, has committed to a three-year contract.

Cooper takes over for Enzo Maresca, who resigned earlier this month to take a position at Chelsea.

After just one season in the Championship, Maresca, 44, led 2016 Premier League winners Leicester back to the top level.

The 44-year-old Steve Cooper, who was fired by Nottingham Forest in December,

has agreed to take over as head coach of Leicester.

Former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter was also considered for the management position by the Foxes.

Leicester met with several possible candidates and conducted a comprehensive process of due diligence.

Among them was former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter,

who was given considerable consideration for the King Power job.

However, negotiations broke down due to a number of concerns on both sides.

Cooper, 44, emerged as the Foxes’ overwhelming favourite to succeed Enzo Maresca,

who led the team back to the Premier League at the first attempt last season before taking the helm at Chelsea.

Cooper is most definitely not the team’s second option.

Potter, on the other hand, is still eager to return to management, and it’s likely that, along with many other candidates,

he will be given consideration for the England manager’s position should Gareth Southgate decide to step down following the Euros.

Cooper hasn’t had a job since being fired by Nottingham Forest, whom he oversaw for just more than two years, in December of last year.

When he left the City Ground, the team was sitting in 17th position in the standings, having won only once in their previous 13 games.

The Welshman managed Swansea City of the Championship from 2019 to 2021 after having previously served

as manager of the England U16 and U17 international teams, the latter of which won the World Cup in 2017.
