Breaking: Leicester City appeal after losing Premier League PSR ruling

Regarding their finances for the three-year cycle ending in 2022–2023,

City has promptly appealed

the Premier League’s most recent ruling in

their Profit and Sustainability Rules case.

Leicester City is appealing the most recent ruling

about an alleged financial regulation violation,

which is fueling the ongoing verbal sparring

between the Premier League and the club.

An impartial panel has rejected City’s appeal,

contending that the Premier League lacked authority to

accuse them of violating the Profit and

Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the three-year

period concluding in June 2023.

City have subsequently appealed against that verdict.

They retain their position that the

Premier League are acting outside of their own rules.

The case concerns a Premier League accusation

that was brought against City in March after

the governing body found that they had over

the £105 million PSR overspend cap for the three-year cycle

that ended with their relegation in the 22–23 season.
Citing that allegation, City was submitted to

an impartial disciplinary committee for consideration,

which would also determine their punishment.

A point deduction would probably occur if found to be in violation,

as it has at Nottingham Forest and Everton.

In their first statement, City expressed their surprise

and disappointment at the Premier League’s decision-making timeliness.

“Continue to defend itself from any unlawful acts by

the football authorities,” the club declared.

This manifested as a complaint, in which City argued

that they were not bound by Premier League regulations because

they were an EFL club at the time of the charge. In response,

an independent commission rejected City’s contention,

finding in favor of the Premier League.

The Independent Commission’s statement on Thursday stated:

“Leicester City FC’s challenge that it lacks jurisdiction

to consider an alleged violation of Profitability

and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) has been dismissed.”

This took the form of a complaint, in which

City claimed that as they were an EFL team at the time of the charge,

they were not subject to Premier League rules.

An impartial panel responded by dismissing City’s argument

and ruling in the Premier League’s favor.

In its statement released on Thursday,

the Independent Commission declared:

“Leicester City FC’s challenge that it lacks jurisdiction to consider an alleged violation of Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) has been dismissed.”
