The hidden reason Kasper Schmeichel to Celtic transfer could be ON as unlikely insider makes case to Brendan Rodgers
Kasper Schmeichel, who played for Falkirk, is well-versed in Scottish football, so he wouldn’t regard Celtic like a retirement community.
That’s the opinion of a man who faced him 17 years ago during his previous visit to Scotland. A year ago, the 37-year-old was connected to the Horops,
but nothing materialized at that time,
as Joe Hart remained Brendan Rodgers’ starting center. Instead, he joined with Anderlecht, where he played for 32 games. However, he departed the team when his one-year contract ran out and is currently looking for a new team.
Though Schmeichel proved at Euro 2024
that he still had it, Mark Wilson on Clyde
1 Superscoreboard floated the notion of a reunion with his former Leicester manager Rodgers.
When Schmeichel had a fantastic loan spell
under John Hughes at Falkirk in 2007, Wilson was a player for Celtic. In addition,
he believes that having played in Scotland
and having a past relationship with Rodgers make a move possible. Rodgers is also a free agent.
Wilson remarked, “That’s a good idea; I like it.
He’s perhaps pushing it a touch too far at 37.
Nevertheless, he’s been an excellent goalie over the years
if he has maintained his physical condition,
which you would think he would. Brendan Rodgers is, of course, the connection there.
“He is the perfect keeper—he has the height and experience you need. It’s fine if he works for you for a year or two if that’s all you get out of him.
“I don’t believe that signing every player has to be done solely for financial gain. The performances and awards they assist in delivering should be the ultimate goal. You have to admit, Joe Hart checked all the boxes. Naturally, Celtic did not receive any sell-on from him, but they did receive a successful and stable spell from a goalie who, while not perfect, was usually there to assist the club over the finish line.
