Rangers confirmed that Jay Hogarth has left the club to join Queen of the South on a six-month loan.

The Light Blues announced on their website on July 3 at midday that the 20-year-old will continue his development in League One until January,

after spending the second half of last season in League Two with Dumbarton.

The Daily Record claimed on July 1 that Arbroath and Kelty Hearts were also interested in loaning the goalie, but Queen of the South secured his services.

Jay Hogarth joins Queen of the South on loan from Rangers

In the midst of an exodus of permanent and temporary goalkeeping exits in Glasgow this summer,

the club has signed Liam Kelly, who left Motherwell.

The 28-year-old returns six years after his first permanent move to Livingston, but is yet to make a senior appearance for the Gers.

He also made two loan moves during his last time with the Rangers, so even if Hogarth isn’t expected to break into Philippe Clement’s first squad anytime soon, he could be a potential option in some fashion.

The club has a logjam of native keepers who have yet to make an impression at Ibrox, with McCrorie likely to leave after nearly as many loan spells (five) as games (seven) by the age of 26.

Kieran Wright is only a year younger than him and has never played for the Rangers first team, despite spending time on eight different loans. As a result,

Rangers Review’s Chris Jack and Derek Clark have predicted his departure (5 June).

Hogarth is a long way from there, but he will undoubtedly need to make a choice in the coming seasons about whether he will make the grade at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, a Todd Cantwell exit update has emerged in the days since he slammed a fan online.
