According to Graham Smyth, Joe Rodon’s move to Leeds United is “just about there,”

with the club outbidding three Premier League clubs for the defender.

On July 1, a Yorkshire Evening Post journalist tweeted that the finances available elsewhere were

“a little more lucrative,” with Leicester, Ipswich, and Brentford all offering alternate alternatives

for the Welshman this summer.

An official announcement is likely to come within 24 hours as Smyth suggests it might not be

“until tomorrow”, with Rodon having decided to return to Elland Road following a strong loan last term.

It will be a positive outcome for Daniel Farke to retain a major member of his squad from last season,

even if another departs.

Last season, Rodon impressed alongside Pascal Struijk and then-international teammate Ethan Ampadu

at the back under the German, in what appeared to be a promotion push for much of the time.

Exits became inescapable following Leeds United’s late-season decline, which saw them tumble into the

play-offs and eventually lose to Southampton at Wembley.

Gray becoming the most high-profile player of the summer was not what fans wanted to see, but Rodon’s

signing is a positive.

That he had other options, with Ipswich reportedly rejecting a £10 million proposal to stay in the top division

[Alasdair Gold, 1 July], but wanted to return to the Whites, will further strengthen his position in West Yorkshire.

In his tweet ” The Joe Rodon deal sounds like it’s just about there. Had Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Brentford

as options this summer. Decided to return to Leeds United. I suspect the finances were a bit more lucrative elsewhere,

too. Announcement might not come until tomorrow”

Farke will now have to hope that he can acquire enough pieces around him this summer without losing too many more

players to correct the mistakes of the previous season and return to the Premier League.

In unrelated Leeds United news, a permanent Whites transfer has collapsed despite a medical being completed.
