The Sunday Times magazine, which debuted on June 30, has Alcaraz on its cover under the headline “KING CARLOS.” A brief excerpt on the main page described the 21-year-old as the “savior of tennis.”

In an in-depth interview with the magazine prior to his title defense, the Spaniard disclosed that, as a traveling tennis pro, it is difficult for him to date and that, at the moment, he lives with his family.

“My parents, my elder brother, and my two younger brothers reside with me. They see me as simply another regular guy, not a major tennis celebrity.”

McNamee objected to the magazine’s cover, particularly considering when it was published. The four-time Grand Slam doubles champion stated that since Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic are both ranked higher than him, it is “disrespectful” to portray Alcaraz as the “savior.”

“Even though I adore Alcaraz, this is disrespectful to the two men who are seeded above him on Wimbledon eve. women’s tennis as well as Jannick Sinner and Novak Djokovic.”

Alcaaz is the defending champion and the third seed at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, according to McNamee, who posted on his X account (previously Twitter). He defeated Estonian qualifier Mark Lajal in straight sets on Monday to start play on Center Court.

On the same day, Sinner triumphed as well, overcoming Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann in four sets on Court 1. If both Alcaraz and the Italian World No. 1 make it to the semifinals, they will play each other in the same part of the draw.

Djokovic, the second seed, is positioned in the lower part of the draw. After recovering from knee surgery, he will play on Tuesday afternoon in the first round against Vit Kopriva, a qualifier from the Czech Republic.
