Under Unai Emery, Aston Villa has acquired

one of the most underappreciated

players of the summer, who might be vital

to their hopes of winning in 2024–2025.

Unai Emery, who replaced Steven Gerrard

at the Midlands club after

they qualified for the UEFA Champions League,

has performed admirably.

Though the transfer window is only open for two weeks,

the Villans have already seen some change as Douglas Luiz,

a Brazilian, has completed his move to Juventus.

In the deal that will see Luiz move

to Turin, Enzo Barrenchea and

the talented English winger Samuel-Iling Junior are expected to

travel to Villa Park. However, Villa are also ready to sign

a player who could prove to be crucial for a minimal cost.

Free signing might make a difference.
Villa lost a valuable piece of middle-of-the-park expertise

with the departure of Luiz, but the free transfer of

Ross Barkley, a former midfielder for Luton Town,

may help address that problem.

In May, HITC revealed that Villa was optimistic about landing

the English midfielder and might take advantage

of a clause in his contract with the Hatters.

Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur,

and Brighton & Hove Albion

all shown interest in the midfield player,

but Villa remained

optimistic about completing a deal and eventually

announced the midfielder’s acquisition.

Barkley’s career comeback means he will get another chance to shine

at Villa following a fairly bad loan stint there three seasons ago.

Barkley participated in 32 Premier League games for

The Hatters during the previous season, helping

the relegated Luton team with four assists

and five goals from a deeper position.

Barkley and Diego Maradona have been likened.
After the 2-1 loss to Manchester City, Andros Townsend,

the English midfielder’s former colleague at Luton,

was all praise for him. The player was astonishingly

likened to Diego Maradona.

“To be honest, it’s been enjoyable to watch. Yesterday,

against Man City, Maradona was in the midfield to set up our goal.

“I feel like he’s given the other players,

myself included,

more confidence. The ability to remain composed when

taking a ball under duress is a greatly underestimated talent.

Maradona is an exaggerated analogy. Barkley will be

a fantastic addition to a team that he is already familiar with,

though, if he can play even half as effectively.

“To be honest, after losing to Pep Guardiola’s team,

these have been some of the best midfield performances

I’ve seen in my career,” he said on talkSPORT.

The composure and skill to get the ball off the back four and slip

it past some of the top midfielders in the world

with no worries at all is just amazing.
